St Joseph's
Chapel
8" x 10" 200 In Edition
In 1906, the little wooden chapel on the campus of Spring Hill College was replaced by a resplendent gothic chapel that was dedicated to St. Joseph. In the 1930's, Rev. Michael Kenny described the new chapel as "...turreted, gabled, pinnacled and towered, loftily and chastely vaulted...within and without, one of the most satisfying reproductions of medieval Gothic and, at least, in its front elevation, not unlike a miniature of New York Cathedral." The fence portrayed in this scene is the same fence that originally separated the front and back yards of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Mobile.
