Work on the four etching plates that comprise The Auburn University Sesquicentennial Series of etchings was begun in 2003 and completed in 2006. The plates were made one at a time in this order: Auburn University Chapel, Samford Hall, Langdon Hall, and Hargis Hall. These are copper plates 10¾ inches by 12 inches and 1/8 of an inch in thickness; edges beveled with corners slightly rounded. Upon completion and proofing, the plates were sent to Phoenix, Arizona where Coating Technology, Inc. applied a uniform .0003 thickness of phosphorus charged electroless nickel to the surface. The nickel facing facilitates printing and inhibits oxidation, in addition to adding hardness to the plate surface.
